More RED Hydrogen One specs and release date details revealed

RED

The RED Hydrogen One will feature a 5.7-inch QHD screen that can display images in 2D and (holographic) 4V without the use of glasses.
It’s expected to launch with carriers this summer.
It will pack a Snapdragon 835 chip, 4,500 mAh battery.

The RED Hydrogen One was teased last summer. This is the first smartphone from the camera equipment creator and it has already been up for pre-order starting at $1,195 (and going up to $1,595 for a titanium model).
Despite this, details on what the device would offer in terms of specs haven’t been fully outlined. We’ve heard there will be “holographic” display and modular design—and we’d seen how it was going to look—but in a new post in the RED user forums (via GSMArena) from RED found Jim Jannard, we now have a few more details.
Jannard reiterated that the display would come in at 5.7-inches with QHD resolution and that it can operate both in 2D mode and a slightly dimmer holographic mode (4V) that works without the use of special glasses. Though it’s unclear at this point what kind of content this will support, the exciting news is that you’ll be able to “shoot and create 4V content” on the device natively (i.e. without an additional module).
Editor's Pickrelated articleRED offers more details on how its ‘holographic’ Hydrogen One phone will work

RED Digital Cinema's Hydrogen One smartphone was announced by surprise a few months back. This will be the camera company's first venture into the realm of smartphones and its device is set to arrive with …
Meanwhile, we also learned some of the Hydrogen One specs. It’s set to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip (from the likes of the Galaxy S8 and Google Pixel 2), 4,500 mAh battery with USB Type-C connectivity, hybrid SIM tray (dual-SIM or SIM+microSD card) and a headphone jack. You can expect it to be relatively chunky.
Jannard also says that the device will get official carrier support and expects the device to go on sale with carriers this summer. Pre-order customers will receive their device sometime before that, but likely not prior to an upcoming event this April, where Jannard said the company may show off the unit to pre-order customers at its headquarters.
What RED is proposing with this phone is unlike anything else on the market right now. Though some might be disappointed by its use of last year’s Snapdragon 835 chip, the unique features, and the not completely crazy price tag (I mean, RED has a camera mount on its website that costs the same), still makes this a very interesting device. Give us your thoughts on it in the comments.
