We’re now less than a week away from the release of the Amazon Echo Show, which goes on sale June 28 for $229. Unlike Amazon’s previous Echo products, its new Alexa-powered smart home device features a 7-inch touchscreen, allowing for a broader range of uses. Just ahead of its launch, Amazon has announced that Echo Show will support front door security cameras too.
The Echo Show takes advantage of the Alexa Smart Home skill to allow users to take a look at who’s at their door using a third-party camera’s security feed — hands-free. Simply by asking “Alexa, show me the front door,” you’ll be able to see and hear those visiting your home.

It’s pretty cool, but I expect most people will still be able to answer their door or look out of a window quicker than they can ask Alexa to show them who’s there and wait for it to retrieve their feed. It’s not must-have functionality, but it’s another incentive for those who already own compatible security cameras to pick up the new unit.
