Well that didn’t take long. Just two weeks after launching in the U.S., the Xperia X is already being discounted. I can’t exactly say I’m surprised, what with the ridiculous price tag Sony decided to attach to its not-that-exciting Xperia X lineup, but it’s still bad news. Any time a manufacturer drops the price this soon after launch means that no one is buying the phone and they’re panicking a little. But it means good things if you’re after a cheaper phone.

Amazon, B&H Photo and Best Buy have all knocked around 10% off the brand-spanking-new phone, meaning it’s not likely competitive advantage but a Sony dictate. B&H is offering a free pair of Samsung (?) As many have noted regarding the new X series, overpricing an underwhelming smartphone is not the way to do this. Nevertheless, a discounted phone is worth noting, especially when it’s the latest phone from a company like Sony.
