However, one of the most interesting – and also perhaps one of the ones most shrouded in mystery – is the HTC One M10. Although the details we have to go on are slim, we’re expecting more and more specs to emerge, slowly revealing the exact nature of this highly anticipated device.

Before we start

Everyone is eager to get their hands on One M10 specs, but sometimes that leads to jumping on rumors and giving into tempting (if unsubstantiated) reports. For the purposes of this article, we’re going to try to keep our information as solid as possible, steering clear of suspicious sources and vetting details as best we can. However, without official confirmation from HTC, you have to bear in mind that what we’re talking about here is still just rumors and speculation. Historically, many rumors surrounding HTC devices have turned out to be true, so that’s not to say this is all vapor: just take everything with a grain of optimistic skepticism.

One M10 release date

HTC might be changing the announcement schedule for its flagship device this year. Unlike past years where HTC has traditionally announced its M smartphones at MWC, rumors have been floating around recently claiming that the One M10 will be announced on April 11th at a standalone event in London.

One M10 price and availability

Honestly, we have no idea on this one. It would be safe to assume that a competitive device with the kind of specs we’ve been hearing about should register in the $700-$800 range.

Thanks to a leak from the ever-so-popular @evleaks, we have a pretty good idea that the One M10 will launch in the United States during the week of May 9th. The phone will likely launch on all four major carriers in the U.S. and have an initially limited U.K. release that’s expected to grow overtime. The One M9 was also available as an unlocked variant from HTC.com and online retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, and Target, so we expect a similar release for the One M10.

One M10 name

HTC hasn’t actually officially dubbed their next flagship device the M10. This is just what forum members and fans have started calling whatever the next phone will be. However, it’s possible that HTC might be dumping the “M” line in favor of a new system of branding.

One prolific mobile leaker, Ricciolo1, seemed to indicate on Twitter that this might be the case:

#M10 is NOT the CODENAME of the next #htc #flagship & the soc presented today is inside.. #talk #easy for #obtuse minority spread in #forum

— Ricciolo (@Ricciolo1) November 10, 2015

There was previously mention of a codename “HTC O2” floating around that seemed to be boasting some pretty impressive specs, but these rumors appear to have subsided. If the One M10 is not the O2, then we can probably assume the O2 project was left behind.

The thing we are most sure of is that HTC’s next flagship is being referred to as “Perfume” internally, so whether or not One M10 is the name HTC finally settles on, Perfume seems to be the device we’re consistently talking about here.

HTC One M10 specs

Let’s get down to the nuts and bolts. What have we heard about the One M10 in terms of performance, aesthetics, and power? Let’s dig in.

Display

According to popular HTC leaker @LlabTooFeR, the One M10 will feature a 5.2-inch display. While this first leak didn’t clarify the display type, other rumors point to the inclusion of an AMOLED display this time around.

Processor & RAM

Thanks to a recent leak from @evleaks, we have a pretty good idea that the One M10 will unsurprisingly launch with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 with Adreno 530 GPU. It will also supposedly feature 4GB of RAM, as well as 32GB of on-board storage and microSD expansion. There will also likely be larger storage options for those who need more on-board memory.

Cameras

It’s no secret that HTC has been losing favor with Android fans over the last few years, and the One M9 did very little to help stave off this issue. In fact, some would argue it sped things further along. According to well-known leaker LlabTooFeR, HTC Perfume (aka One M10) will offer a Samsung s5k4e6 5MP UltraPixel camera on the front, with the rear sporting a Sony IMX377 12MP 1.55um + Laser Autofocus + PDAF. It’s the main camera that really piques our interest though, as that happens to be the same sensor found in the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, both of which are regarded as two of the best Android camera phones available. Of course, just because the HTC One M10 uses the IMX377 doesn’t mean it will end up having an amazing camera. Both rear and front cameras are rumored to include optical image stabilization (OIS).

Battery

We’ve got nothing solid on the battery yet, and not even any whispers that help peg this one down. HTC isn’t exactly the champion of giant batteries, but we’ve seen that the One A9 did pretty well with it’s smaller capacity. We may be able to make more educated guesses about the battery as we receive more information about the One M10’s design. For instance, if HTC continues with their pattern of metal bodies, then wireless charging won’t be an option. If it has the Snapdragon 820, which we assume it will, then Quick Charge 3.0 should be supported.

Software

Lots of good news here. Word on the street seems to strongly indicate that the HTC One M10 will launch running the most up-to-date version of Android possible. HTC Sense 8.0 is expected to be stripped down even further with this release, if the current trend can be trusted from the One A9’s upgrade to Sense 7.0. What we’ll probably be looking at in the One M10 is an extremely close-to-stock Android experience with any clutter and razzle dazzle brushed away.

Fingerprint scanner

Fingerprint scanners are becoming more and more ubiquitous. The One M9+ and One A9 both have perfectly functional fingerprint scanners, and we’ve seen nothing but praise regarding them. It would be a bizarre move indeed if HTC took a step backwards and took the fingerprint scanner off just as Marshmallow is making it fully supported.

One M10 design
one-m10-leak

While many folks claim that the One M7, M8 and M9 look too similar to one another, it looks like the One M10 will look much more like the company’s latest flagship, the One A9. At least if this leaked image turns out to be real, it’s looking like there will be a few major design changes this time around. Perhaps the biggest news is the removal of the front-facing BoomSound speakers. This is a bummer. One of the biggest selling points of the M7-M9 was loud and clear front speakers, and now it looks like those will be moved to one of the device’s edges.

Additionally, we’re seeing a physical home button underneath the display, which will likely house the fingerprint sensor.

Power and volume buttons look to be present on the left side, and above the display we can see an earpiece and front-facing camera sensor. We aren’t noticing anything too out of the ordinary here.

Wrapping up

It’s not a lot to go on right now, but these are our best predictions for what HTC has up its sleeve with the One M10 in 2016. Every time we find a new puzzle piece that fits in, we’ll add it to this post and keep the information current.
